Chrome-moly parts are expensive, long lead and heat treated. Getting the geometry wrong is not a quick remake, so we issue drawings and models for approval before material is committed.

For a standard ASME pattern a drawing mostly confirms bore, facing, grade and heat treatment condition. For the long weld necks, studding outlets and special body connectors that show up on high temperature service, the model is the only unambiguous description of the part.

Send a sketch, a marked-up print, a scan of an old drawing or a sample we can measure, and we will produce a dimensioned drawing for approval before release to the floor.

Why ask for a model

Section thickness review

Preheat and PWHT requirements follow thickness. Agreeing the section on a model settles the heat treatment plan too.

Weld prep and access

Chrome-moly welds need controlled preparation and often local PWHT. Model the joint and the access the heating blanket needs.

Clash checking

Drop the model into the piping model and confirm the flange clears structure, equipment and the thickness of high temperature insulation.

Approval record

On code work the approved drawing is the reference if a delivered part is ever questioned.

Formats

We work in the formats piping and mechanical groups actually use. Tell us what your system needs and we will issue in that.

FormatUse
PDFDimensioned drawing for review, approval and the shop floor
DWG / DXF2D CAD geometry, profile and drilling layout
STEP / IGESNeutral 3D solids. Import into any major CAD or plant design system
STLMesh geometry for visualisation and additive prototyping
Dimensioned CAD drawing of a flange showing plan and section views with callouts
A dimensioned drawing issued for approval. Geometry agreed on paper first, then cut.

What to send us

Any of these is enough to start:

  • A marked-up print or a hand sketch with the critical dimensions
  • A scan or photograph of an existing drawing, including old and faded ones
  • A sample part, which we can measure
  • The size, class, facing and material if it is a standard pattern
  • A STEP file, if the geometry already exists in your model

Drawings are issued for approval, not as a catalog. A drawing we produce for your job describes your part. Dimensional data for the published standard patterns lives on the weights and dimensions page and on the Texas Flange tables.
